With a $1.1 million clubhouse and a $4 million course renovation, Florida boasts one of the finest overall facilities in all of collegiate golf.
Since 1962, the University of Florida Golf Club (formerly the Gainesville Golf and Country Club) has been home to the Gators. A $1.1 million clubhouse was completed in September of 1988 on the site of the original clubhouse, thanks to a donation from former UF student and Gator Booster Guy Bostick. The clubhouse features lockers for both the public and the varsity teams, as well as coaches' offices, a study/meeting room, pro shop and snack bar for a combined total of approximately 8,000 square feet. Also included is a 3,000 square foot deck and a cart storage area.
This season, Gator golf will move into a new era, playing on a fully-renovated course that opened in November. While improvements and additions have been made over the years, this is the first full-scale renovation in 20 years.
The University of Florida hired Jacksonville-based architect Bobby Weed to head up the renovation and, along with an experienced staff, he has constructed a course that is challenging for collegiate golfers. Par at the newly renovated course will remain at 70, but the yardage has increased to 6,701 yards. Among other things, the course will have longer par-3s, strategically placed bunkers and a tricky par-4 17 that could see just as many double bogeys as eagles and birdies.
Some holes have changed only slightly, keeping some familiarity, while others have been completely redesigned, to challenge golfers day in and day out. Both the men's and the women's golf team host tournaments on the Mark Bostick Golf Course in the spring.
Throughout the year, the Mark Bostick Golf Course plays host to several championship tournaments. Included among these are the Gator and Lady Gator Golf Day Pro-Am, where alumni and current PGA tour players return each year to give their time and money to continue the winning tradition of the Gator golf program. Various state tournaments and the SEC Championships have also been held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
