How DesignYour.Org Works
Creating your Web site through the DesignYour.Org system couldn’t be simpler. If you've ever used word processing software like Microsoft Word, then using the tool will be a cinch. Your site's content is controlled through a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get)editor that lets you see how your site will look before you make your changes live. And getting started is a snap, too. Here are the steps to get your organization online today!
The Application Process
The first step is to apply, by simply clicking on the green button to the left. Since we don't give free sites to just anyone, we need to make sure you are a legitimate non-profit. We won't turn away any types of organizations as long as they qualify as a non-profit, so don't be afraid to apply. Simply tell us who you are and give us your Federal Tax ID number. We understand that not all groups will have one, like school groups or philanthropic arms of for-profit organizations, and that's ok. Just use the text area to tell us why your organization qualifies. Once the form is complete, we'll review it and either let you know what other information we need, or we'll give you access to start building your Web site right away!
Setting Up Your Web Site
Once approved, you'll be asked to choose a name for your site. This will be the name used in the domain name or address for your site, such as DesignYour.org/Example. You will then upload your logo and select from a list of designs to pick the one that you like best. Remember, you can change the design selection at any time down the road.
Once that is complete, you will be taken to the editor. This is the area where you import your site's text, photos, documents, and other information. You'll be able to edit each page of the site individually. We've setup the main four links to be "About Us," "Donate," "Volunteer," and "Contact," but you can change them to be whatever you like. Then you can create as many subpages underneath those main sections as you want.
We'll even show you some other things you can add through the admin. For example, we'll walk you through the process of setting up a PayPal account to accept donations. They provide a button you can insert in your design for users to easily make credit card or bank transfer donations to your organization!
